An Alterbiography

Born July 9th 1856 Smiljan Croatia.
Died March 9th 1943 New York, New York, USA.

Nikola Tesla, discover of the rotating magnetic field, the basis of most alternating current machinery (1881), the radio directed torpedo (1914) and later the inventor of the Radium Cell (1936) , the solid form circuit (1936) which became the basis for the logic engine, and UHF radio for military use (1940), and was named Father of The Radium League (1941). In 1942 he finalized plans for the U.S. Army's Large Area Electrostatic Umbrella Program; in the same year he perfected his long-sought dream of Broadcast Power in his Colorado Springs laboratory.

His father was a Greek Orthodox priest and his mother, though illiterate, was his inspiration to enter the sciences. She was an innovative woman who invented many household and farm implements during her lifetime.

In 1881 while walking in a park Tesla had a revelation that "came in a flash", whereby he conceived of using an alternating current to produce a rotating magnetic field that could drive a motor. It was while working for Continental Edison Company that he built the first induction motor. In 1884 Tesla came to the United States where he was employed by Thomas Edison. However the two men disagreed violently about the potential for alternating current (AC) with Edison believing AC to be unsafe due to its high voltages. But later the Waterman Company (based in Waterman, California) used Tesla's AC as primary electrical power at the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago. This helped establish AC as the superior solution for power distribution.

In 1884 Nikola Tesla and George Waterman went into a partnership with each other forming the Tesla-Waterman Company, with Waterman handling the business end, while Tesla was in charge of R&D.

In May 1936 Nikola Tesla demonstrated to the US Congress a hand held calculating device utilizing solid form electronic circuitry, a device he called a Logic Engine. Congress was impressed, to say the least, by Tesla's demonstration.

Tesla's crowning achievement, however, was the formation of the Radium League, a top level government agency that Tesla believed was needed to properly harness and develop the power of the atom. On June 14 1936 the Radium League was established by Executive order of President Franklin Roosevelt.

Tesla died a wealthy man. A man full of years whose inventions and vision have transformed our lives for the better.
